Background of Business

Simply Smooth, opened in October 2008 by husband and wife Gurvinder Singh and Rajinder Kaur (pictured), is a laser hair removal clinic and specialist skin care centre for ladies. The business already employs three part-time clinicians trained to operate an advanced ND:YAG laser machine. They believe this is the first to be installed in the District. Both graduated from Manchester University, Graham in computer and business studies, Rajinder in sociology. Graham now teaches IT skills while his wife has worked a retail manager in the clothing sector. However, she will now manage and promote the clinic.

Support Journey

Having identified a gap in the Bradford District market for laser hair removal treatment the couple contacted Kickstart partner ATL, where business counsellor Raihanna Ismail and business growth adviser George Nash helped with their business planning and cash flow forecasting. They were recommended to apply for professional services support, resulting in Bradford creative agency Dulay Seymour designing and producing a suite of business stationery and a brochure describing the range of treatments the clinic can provide.

Where are they now

Simply Smooth opened for business in October 2008, based in Keighley Road, Frizinghall. Management and staff completed intensive training in the safe and efficient operation of the laser equipment. Initially, a ‘soft opening’ promoted the clinic’s skin care services, including facials, waxing and threading. Staff visited busy shopping centres in the District to build awareness of the clinic, distributing leaflets produced within the Kickstart professional services programme. “Kickstart has been very helpful to us in preparing to launch our new business and we appreciate the support,” says Gurvinder.
